It’s all important. Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, pleading guilty to fraud and campaign finance violations he claims he did at the behest of Donald Trump is important. Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, getting convicted of tax fraud is important.
But let’s not miss this equally important news, from the Wall Street Journal:
David Pecker, the chief executive of the company that publishes the National Enquirer, was granted immunity by federal prosecutors for providing information about Michael Cohen and Donald Trump in the criminal investigation into hush-money payments for two women during the 2016 presidential campaign, according to people familiar with the matter.
In exchange for immunity, Mr. Pecker, CEO of American Media, Inc., has met with prosecutors and shared details about payments Mr. Cohen arranged in an effort to silence two women who alleged sexual encounters with Mr. Trump, including Mr. Trump’s knowledge of the deals, some of the people said.
We talk a lot about who knows where the “bodies are buried” in the Trump orbit. Michael Cohen was supposed to know where all the “bodies” were with Trump’s shady business dealings. Paul Manafort was supposed to know where the Russian bodies are. Allen Weisselberg, who was mentioned on one of the Cohen tapes, is supposed to know a great deal.
I’ve come to the opinion that nobody knows anything that can bring Trump down, because everything that should bring Trump down is already known. It’s already been priced in, by people on both sides. We already know Trump obstructed justice, he basically tries to do so some more every freaking day. We’re already know Russians successfully influenced our election. The open question is really only if Trump directed the action or was merely cool with it.
People keep turning up bodies and Republicans keep ignoring them. People keep turning over the murder weapons, and Republicans keep saying “well, that gun is cold now, I need the gun to still be smoking hot before I can act.”
But there’s one piece of information that I don’t know that might shake at least some of these conservative fools out of the cult of Trump. I don’t know anything about Donald Trump’s abortion history. I don’t know if he’s ever helped pay for one.
David Pecker knows. I bet David Pecker definitely knows, one way or the other.
And if he ever feels like talking about that, if he is ever compelled to talk about that, well that might be new information indeed. That might be… important.
