Matthew Whitaker Apparently Only Owns One Tie

Matthew Whitaker is a lot of things. A former forgettable, non-Academic All-American tight end from Iowa, a former U.S. Attorney from Iowa, the guy who threatened customers of a scam company he worked with, and the author of the world’s worst judicial application. What he’s not, in any legal sense, is the Acting Attorney General, though this is somehow failing to stop him.

One more thing he happens to be is a creature of habit. Coming off his disastrous showing at the Capitol last week, an eagle-eyed observer posted this on Twitter:

Could it really be true that Whitaker only owns one tie? Well:

Oh, we’re onto something here, people. Did Whitaker not make enough money sitting on the board of that company that the FTC had to shut down? Could he really only have one tie?

The answer is no, thankfully. He has at least three, including this orange one from his official headshot and this blue number from a shot grabbed by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images:

So why the pervasiveness of this one other tie? Is this his lucky tie? Perhaps he likes to run to the familiar whenever building the record for a potential obstruction charge? Did Trump tell him once that he preferred this tie and now he’s paralyzed by the prospect of falling out of favor with the boss?

Whatever the origins of this quirk, we’re now officially on the Matthew Whi-TIE-ker Watch.
