Former Biglaw Attorney And Her Children Killed In Sri Lanka Attack

In-house attorney Anita Nicholson was vacationing with her husband Ben Nicholson, a partner at the British law firm Kennedys, with their two young children, Alex and Annabel, at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka, when the coordinated terrorist attacks hit eight location across the city. As reported by Law.com, Ben Nicholson was injured, and Anita and their children died in the attack.

Ben Nicholson works out of the Singapore office of Kennedys. Anita Nicholson was managing counsel at the mining company Anglo-America, having previously worked in-house at BHP Billiton and BP. She also spent time in Biglaw, working at DLA Piper from 2001 to 2003.

Kennedys made the following statement about the tragedy:

“It is with great sadness that we confirm Anita Nicholson, wife of our partner Ben, and their two children, Alex and Annabel were tragically killed in the Colombo bombings on Sunday,” Kennedys said in a statement. “We are in contact with Ben and supporting him in every way we can. Ben is now surrounded by the loving support of his family. This is devastating news and our thoughts are very much with Ben at this difficult time.”

The death toll in the attacks has risen to 321 people, with more than 500 injured. Our thoughts go out to the family and colleagues of the Nicholsons during this difficult time.
