When the President of the United States endorsed as a candidate for the U.S. Senate a man accused of earlier sexual misconduct with young teenage girls, the nation was unprepared for the possibility of of placing such an individual in a position of political power. The door opened to examining current knowledge about pedophiles, reported intervention strategies in treating similar sexual offenders, and legal processes that complicated remedies for alleged victims of childhood sexual abuse. This article examines institutional protections enjoyed by alleged child sexual abusers and some possible advances for treatment of afflicted sex abusers along with legal systems modifications which might provide greater opportunities for legal remedies for sexual abuse victims who tend not to report their abuse for many years following their victimization.
